PDRN skincare: what it is and who it suits

· 4 min read

PDRN is a nucleotide active that behaves like a recovery step rather than an exfoliant, which makes it a good fit for dull, dehydrated or sensitised skin.

What is PDRN in skincare?

PDRN stands for polydeoxyribonucleotide — a mixture of DNA-derived nucleotide fragments, listed on an ingredient panel as Sodium DNA. Topically it acts as a hydrating, recovery-focused active.

It is the same family of ingredient behind the 'salmon DNA' facials that came out of Korean clinics, reformulated for at-home leave-on use.

Who should use a PDRN serum?

Anyone whose skin looks tired rather than congested: dull, dehydrated, flat, or recovering from too many strong actives.

Because it does not exfoliate, PDRN suits people who react to acids and retinoids but still want visible change.

  • Dull, dehydrated, tired-looking skin
  • Barriers recovering from over-exfoliation
  • Sensitive skin that can't tolerate acids

How do you use PDRN with other actives?

Apply 3–4 drops to clean, dry skin morning and night, before moisturiser. It layers well with niacinamide, hyaluronates and copper peptides.

If you also use strong exfoliating acids, introduce PDRN gradually rather than stacking everything from day one.

How long does PDRN take to work?

Plumpness and smoothness typically read within 2–4 weeks. Tone and overall evenness continue to develop over 8–12 weeks of daily use.
